Giving Back: A Big Thank You to Our Readers and Submitters!

Nothing is more important to us at Frontier than our community of emerging writers—our amazing volunteer readers joined forces with the readers from The Masters Review to choose four literary charities to receive $250 each. We are honored to have given to these four wonderful organizations and encourage all who can to give as well.

Literacy for Incarcerated Teens

“LIT partners with City and State agency stakeholders invested in juvenile justice and education. LIT sustains collection development practices that provide books and literacy resources appropriate for school libraries and young adult readers. LIT also ensures physical space (from shelves to desks to furniture) for school libraries within detention and secure residential settings.”

Girls Write Now

“Girls Write Now mentors underserved high school girls from throughout New York City’s five boroughs — over 90% high need and 95% girls of color — who must rise above the race and income-based inequalities of the city’s public school system and the nation’s workforce. Through one-to-one mentoring with professional women writers and media makers, writing and technology workshops, and leadership, college prep, and professional development opportunities, we inspire women to share their craft and empower girls to find their voices and tell their stories.”

Books to Prisoners

“Books To Prisoners is a Seattle-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster a love of reading behind bars, encourage the pursuit of knowledge and self-empowerment, and break the cycle of recidivism. We believe that books are tools for learning and for opening minds to new ideas and possibilities, and engage incarcerated individuals with the benefits of reading by mailing tens of thousands of free books to inmates across the country each year. In 2015, the City of Seattle recognized Books to Prisoners as a Human Rights Leader.”

Writers in the Schools

“Storytelling reveals our truest selves. Since 1983, Writers in the Schools (WITS) has worked hand-in-hand with educators and professional writers to teach students the craft of writing. WITS is transforming the hearts and minds of young people all over Houston and beyond.”
